Getting from Elafonisos to Lavrio

If you are heading to Lavrio from Elafonisos you are making your way from a small island off the southern Peloponnese coast to the third ferry port serving Athens, on the southeastern tip of Attica around 30 minutes from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

Elafonisos has no ferry connection to the wider Greek ferry network. The only ferry from Elafonisos is the short 10 minute crossing to Pounta on the southern Peloponnese, which runs every 30 minutes in summer. Getting to Lavrio means taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and then driving north to Athens and continuing southeast to Lavrio, which takes around 30 minutes from Athens Airport. The total drive from Pounta to Lavrio takes around 4 to 4.5 hours via Tripoli and Corinth.

Getting there by air

Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 30 kilometres to the northwest. Elafonisos has no airport. Taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta, driving north to Athens and then taking a taxi to Lavrio from Athens Airport gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta, drive north to Athens and take a taxi directly to Lavrio from Athens Airport. At around 20 to 30 minutes it is one of the most convenient airport to port connections in Greece. Having a car is essential for the Pounta to Athens leg as the KTEL bus connection is slow and infrequent. If you are heading to Kea or Kythnos from Lavrio, ferries to both islands run frequently throughout the day in summer.
