Getting from Paros to Chania

If you are heading to Chania from Paros you are making your way to the most beautiful city in Crete, a Venetian old town wrapped around a harbour that has been in use for over three thousand years.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Paros to Chania. The nearest ferry port to Chania is Heraklion, around 80 kilometres to the east, which has a seasonal direct ferry connection from Paros running in summer and taking around 3 to 5 hours. From Heraklion a bus or taxi to Chania takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. Alternatively the overnight ferry from Piraeus to Chania runs year-round but getting to Piraeus from Paros adds significant time.

Getting there by air

Both Paros and Chania have airports. Flying from Paros to Athens takes around 45 minutes and then Athens to Chania takes around 50 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly via Athens to Chania. It is the fastest and most direct approach. If the seasonal Paros to Heraklion ferry is running and you do not mind the onward bus to Chania, it is a pleasant alternative that avoids Athens entirely.
