Getting from Syros to Ios

If you are heading to Ios from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to an island in the southern part of the same group. It has some of the finest beaches in the Cyclades on its south coast and a Chora above the port that comes alive in the evening.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Syros to Ios running several times daily in summer, taking around 3 to 4 hours via Paros and Naxos. It keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens and Piraeus entirely. The service connects Syros southward through the central Cyclades making it a straightforward and enjoyable island hop through the heart of the island group.

Getting there by air

Ios has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. The direct ferry from Syros south through the Cyclades to Ios is considerably more practical than flying for this within-Cyclades connection. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Syros south through the Cyclades to Ios. It keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure times vary by season. If you are traveling with a car the conventional ferry takes your vehicle directly to Ios port.
