Getting from Syros to Kasos
If you are heading to Kasos from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to the southernmost island in the Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has a maritime history that produced some of Greece's most celebrated sea captains and an authenticity that comes from being almost entirely off the tourist circuit.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Syros to Kasos. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, which runs up to 6 daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 hours on the fast boat, and then boarding the Piraeus to Kasos ferry, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 13 to 17 hours. Flying is considerably more practical for most travelers.
Getting there by air
Kasos has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, flying from Athens to Rhodes and then Rhodes to Kasos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. Check the schedule carefully as the Kasos service runs a limited number of times per week. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
