Getting from Syros to Lavrio

If you are heading to Lavrio from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to the third ferry port serving Athens, on the southeastern tip of Attica around 30 minutes from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Syros to Lavrio running several times daily in summer, taking around 3 to 4 hours. It is one of the most natural connections from Syros to the Attica coast and avoids Piraeus and central Athens entirely. Lavrio sits just 30 minutes from Athens Airport making it a highly convenient arrival point for onward connections to Kea, Kythnos and the western Cyclades.

Getting there by air

Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 30 kilometres to the northwest. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. The direct ferry from Syros to Lavrio is considerably more practical than flying for this connection given the frequency and directness of the sea route.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Syros to Lavrio. It avoids Piraeus and central Athens entirely and arrives just 30 minutes from Athens Airport. If you are heading to Kea or Kythnos from Lavrio, ferries to both islands run frequently throughout the day in summer. If you are traveling with a car the conventional ferry takes your vehicle directly to Lavrio port.
