Getting from Syros to Sikinos

If you are heading to Sikinos from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to one of the lesser talked about islands in the southern part of the same group. It has a Chora perched on a ridge above the port and an atmosphere of genuine calm that sets it apart from its more visited neighbours.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Syros to Sikinos. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Syros south through the Cyclades via Paros, Naxos and Santorini to Sikinos, which takes around 2 to 3 hours from Santorini and runs several times a week in summer. This keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens and Piraeus entirely, though the total journey time is around 6 to 8 hours depending on connections. Alternatively take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Sikinos ferry, which runs around 3 times a week and takes around 7 to 9 hours.

Getting there by air

Sikinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Syros south through the Cyclades to Santorini and then the short ferry to Sikinos keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Syros south through the Cyclades to Santorini and then the short ferry across to Sikinos. It keeps the journey within the Cyclades and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedules carefully before booking as the Santorini to Sikinos service runs a limited number of times per week. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Sikinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the island.
