Getting from Telendos to Karpathos
If you are heading to Karpathos from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to a long mountainous island in the southern part of the same group. It has a strong local culture and the extraordinary village of Olympos in the north where centuries-old customs are still very much alive.
Take the ferry
There is a ferry connection from Telendos to Karpathos via the Dodecanese network. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then making your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south through Rhodes to Karpathos, which takes around 3 to 4 hours from Rhodes and runs several times a week. This keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese network and avoids Athens entirely.
Getting there by air
Karpathos has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Telendos has no airport. The nearest airports are Kalymnos and Kos. Taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties, flying from Kalymnos to Athens and then Athens to Karpathos takes around 1 hour 15 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and make your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south through the Dodecanese to Karpathos via Rhodes. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and avoids Athens entirely. Alternatively fly from Kalymnos to Athens and then Athens to Karpathos for a faster connection. If you are traveling with a car, note that no cars are permitted on Telendos so your vehicle would already be on Kalymnos, from where the ferry takes it south through the Dodecanese to Karpathos.
