Getting from Telendos to Kasos

If you are heading to Kasos from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to the southernmost island in the same group, to the south. It has a maritime history that produced some of Greece's most celebrated sea captains and an authenticity that comes from being almost entirely off the tourist circuit.

Take the ferry

There is a ferry connection from Telendos to Kasos via the Dodecanese network. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then making your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south through Rhodes to Kasos, which takes around 3 to 4 hours from Rhodes and runs several times a week. This keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese network and avoids Athens entirely.

Getting there by air

Kasos has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Telendos has no airport. The nearest airports are Kalymnos and Kos. Taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties, flying from Kalymnos to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kasos gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. Check the schedule carefully as the Kasos service runs a limited number of times per week. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and make your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south through the Dodecanese to Rhodes, then continue to Kasos by ferry or air. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully as the Kasos service runs a limited number of times per week. If you are traveling with a car, note that no cars are permitted on Telendos so your vehicle would already be on Kalymnos, from where the ferry takes it south through the Dodecanese.
