Getting from Telendos to Leros
If you are heading to Leros from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to one of the most atmospheric islands in the northern part of the same group. It has a striking Art Deco Italian colonial port at Lakki and a medieval castle above the main town of Platanos.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry connection from Telendos to Leros via the Dodecanese network. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then making your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry north to Leros, which takes around 1 to 1.5 hours and runs several times daily. This keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese without going through Athens or Piraeus and is one of the most natural connections in the northern Dodecanese.
Getting there by air
Leros has its own small airport with daily connections from Athens. Telendos has no airport. The nearest airports are Kalymnos and Kos. The direct ferry via Kalymnos is considerably more practical than flying for this short within-Dodecanese connection.
Your best option
Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and make your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the direct ferry north to Leros. At around 1 to 1.5 hours from Pothia it is one of the most natural and effortless connections in the Dodecanese. The total journey from Telendos to Leros including the local boat and taxi across Kalymnos takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. If you are traveling with a car, note that no cars are permitted on Telendos so your vehicle would already be on Kalymnos, from where the conventional ferry takes it directly to Leros.
