Getting from Thassos to Alonissos
If you are heading to Alonissos from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to the most remote of the Sporades group, both sitting in the northern Aegean and well suited to being combined in the same trip. Alonissos has a densely forested coastline, a beautifully preserved old village above the port and a marine park that protects the largest colony of Mediterranean monk seals in Europe.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Thassos to Alonissos. The most natural approach is to take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then drive to Thessaloniki, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, for the seasonal Seajets direct ferry from Thessaloniki to Alonissos. This service runs from June to September, 2 to 5 days per week, and takes around 4 hours 10 to 20 minutes. Alternatively drive from Kavala to Volos, which takes around 2.5 hours, and take the direct Volos to Alonissos ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 3 to 5 hours. Note that as of 2026 there are no departures from Agios Konstantinos to Alonissos.
Getting there by air
Alonissos has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, from where the ferry to Alonissos takes around 1 hour 5 minutes. Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, flying from Kavala to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos, followed by the ferry to Alonissos, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and drive to Thessaloniki for the seasonal Seajets direct ferry to Alonissos. At around 7 to 8 hours total it keeps the journey entirely in northern Greece and avoids Athens entirely. The seasonal Seajets service is the most direct and enjoyable connection. If the Thessaloniki service is not running on your dates, drive from Kavala to Volos and take the direct Volos to Alonissos ferry instead. The combination of Thassos and Alonissos in the same trip makes for one of the great northern Aegean itineraries.
