Getting from Thassos to Evia

If you are heading to Evia from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to the second largest island in Greece, connected to the mainland by road bridges and relatively close in geographic terms given both sit on the eastern side of the country. It has varied landscapes from forested mountains in the north to sandy beaches in the south.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Thassos to Evia. Getting there means taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then driving southwest via the E75 motorway and Lamia to Halkida, which takes around 4 to 4.5 hours from Kavala, and crossing the bridge directly into Evia. This avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural approach from Thassos. For northern Evia, drive from Lamia to Arkitsa and take the short ferry to Loutra Edipsou, which takes around 30 minutes.

Getting there by air

Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and driving southwest to Halkida for the bridge crossing into Evia gives a total journey time of around 5.5 to 6 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
