Getting from Thassos to Mykonos
If you are heading to Mykonos from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to the most cosmopolitan island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has a maze of whitewashed lanes above the port, long beaches on the south coast and some of the best beach clubs in Greece.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Thassos to Mykonos. Getting there means taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then either flying from Kavala to Athens and taking the ferry from Rafina to Mykonos, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 to 2.5 hours on the fast catamaran, or driving to Rafina via the E75 motorway, which takes around 5.5 to 6.5 hours from Kavala. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely.
Getting there by air
Mykonos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, flying from Kavala to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos takes around 40 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and fly from Kavala to Athens, then fly from Athens to Mykonos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Book ahead in July and August as flight spaces fill up fast. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and drive to Piraeus via the E75 motorway and board the conventional Piraeus to Mykonos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the New Port.
