Getting from Thassos to Poros
If you are heading to Poros from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of the country. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Thassos to Poros. Getting there means taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then either flying from Kavala to Athens and taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures, or driving to Piraeus via the E75 motorway, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Kavala.
Getting there by air
Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, flying from Kavala to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and fly from Kavala to Athens, then take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach at around 5 to 6 hours total. If you are traveling with a car, drive to Galatas on the eastern Peloponnese coast after arriving at Piraeus and take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day.
