Getting from Thessaloniki to Tinos

If you are heading to Tinos from Thessaloniki you are making your way from the second largest city in Greece to the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has the most venerated pilgrimage church in Greece and a tradition of extraordinary marble craftsmanship in its interior villages.

Getting there by air

Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Thessaloniki has an international airport with connections to Athens and seasonal direct flights to Mykonos in summer. Flying from Thessaloniki to Mykonos and then taking the short ferry from Mykonos to Tinos, which takes around 20 to 35 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours when the direct service is running. Check the schedule as direct flights are seasonal. Alternatively fly from Thessaloniki to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Tinos, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours.

Take the train, bus or drive

Thessaloniki is connected to Athens by train, taking around 4 to 5 hours, and by KTEL bus, taking around 5 to 6 hours. From Athens the ferry from Rafina to Tinos runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Thessaloniki to Tinos. Getting there means traveling to Athens and then taking the ferry from Rafina or Piraeus to Tinos.

Your best option

Fly from Thessaloniki to Mykonos when the direct seasonal service is running and take the short ferry across to Tinos. When direct flights are not available, fly from Thessaloniki to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Tinos. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Thessaloniki to Piraeus via the E75 motorway and take the conventional Piraeus to Tinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the port.
