Getting from Zakynthos to Alonissos
If you are heading to Alonissos from Zakynthos you are making your way from one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands to the most remote of the Sporades group, in the northern Aegean. It has a densely forested coastline, a beautifully preserved old village above the port and a marine park that protects the largest colony of Mediterranean monk seals in Europe.
Getting there by air
Alonissos has no airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, with connections from Athens. Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Zakynthos to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos, followed by the ferry from Skiathos to Alonissos taking around 1 to 2 hours, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Alonissos. No Ionian island is connected by sea to any Aegean island. Getting there by road means taking the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and driving to Volos or Mantoudi for the ferry to Alonissos. Note that as of 2026 there are no departures from Agios Konstantinos to Alonissos. The total journey by road takes around 7 to 8 hours from Kyllini.
Your best option
Fly from Zakynthos to Athens and then fly to Skiathos and take the ferry across to Alonissos. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and drive to Volos or Mantoudi for the ferry to Alonissos from there.
