Getting from Zakynthos to Andros
If you are heading to Andros from Zakynthos you are making your way from one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands to the northernmost island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality and a network of old footpaths connecting the villages.
Getting there by air
Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Zakynthos to Athens and then taking a taxi to Rafina, around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport, for the ferry to Andros taking around 1 to 2 hours with up to 11 daily departures in summer, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Andros. No Ionian island is connected by sea to any Aegean island. Andros is served primarily from Rafina on the northeastern Attica coast. Getting there by road means taking the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and driving northeast through the Peloponnese via Patras and Corinth to Rafina, which takes around 4.5 to 5 hours from Kyllini. The total journey by road and ferry takes around 6 to 7 hours.
Your best option
Fly from Zakynthos to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Andros. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini, drive to Rafina and take the ferry across to Andros.
