Getting from Zakynthos to Corfu

If you are heading to Corfu from Zakynthos you are making your way from one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands to the most famous island in the same sea, further north. It has a UNESCO World Heritage Site town, a lush green coastline and one of the most elegant old towns in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Corfu. Both are Ionian islands but there is no sea connection between them. Getting there means taking the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and then driving north via Patras, Preveza and the western Greek coast to Igoumenitsa, which takes around 4 to 5 hours from Kyllini, and then taking the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Corfu, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes and runs multiple times daily. This avoids Athens entirely and keeps the journey within western Greece.

Getting there by air

Corfu has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Zakynthos to Athens and then Athens to Corfu takes around 1 hour on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and drive north via Patras and the western Greek coast to Igoumenitsa for the ferry across to Corfu. It avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural road and sea approach between the two Ionian islands. If you prefer to fly, take the flight from Zakynthos to Athens and then fly to Corfu. If you are traveling with a car the drive north to Igoumenitsa gives you a vehicle on Corfu for exploring the coastline and interior villages.
