About the Beach
Aliki Beach is one of the most beautiful and historically significant coastal sites on the southeastern coast of Thassos, located on a small peninsula that acts as an open-air museum. It features two distinct bays with fine white sand that looks like flour and exceptionally clear turquoise water, surrounded by ancient marble quarries that date back to the 7th century BC. The main bay is well-organized with several traditional fish tavernas and cafes that offer an authentic maritime atmosphere right on the sand. The surrounding landscape is filled with ruins of pre-Christian temples and Byzantine basilicas, allowing visitors to swim among history where Roman ships once anchored for marble. The water is shallow and the entry is very easy for families, although some sections have smooth submerged rocks that add to the natural charm. It is a destination for those who want to combine a high-quality beach day with an exploration of one of the island's most important archaeological treasures. The atmosphere is social and reflects the deep history of the northern Aegean. Parking can be difficult during the peak summer months due to its immense popularity.
