About the Beach
Gourna Beach is one of the longest and most expansive sandy beaches on the western coast of Leros. It features dark volcanic sand and very shallow, crystalline water that is a choice for families with small children. The beach is partially organized with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are several tavernas nearby that serve fresh local seafood. The surrounding landscape is flat and rural, with citrus groves and gardens providing a green frame to the sea. The water is usually calm, though western winds can create waves. The entry into the sea is very easy and sandy for a long distance, offering a safe environment for all swimmers. It is a destination for those who want a quiet and relaxed beach day in a traditional setting. The sunset from this side of the island is particularly beautiful and scenic. It is a part of the coast that feels open and airy, perfect for long walks along the shore.
