About the Beach
Metalia Beach is a unique and culturally significant sandy shore on the southwestern coast of Thassos, located at the base of the historic Palataki building in Limenaria. It features a shore of fine sand and smooth pebbles with a distinctive reddish hue, surrounded by an industrial legacy of abandoned manganese mines and blast furnaces that create a cinematic atmosphere. The beach is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, and it features an open-air art exhibition on the mining field, blending industrial history with modern creativity. A small tunnel through the rocks on the right side leads to even smaller, secluded coves that are popular with adventurers and those seeking total privacy. The water is exceptionally clean and relatively shallow near the shore, providing a high-quality environment for snorkeling among the rocky outcrops. It is a destination for those who want to combine a high-quality swim with an exploration of the island's unique industrial heritage in a scenic and well-maintained location. The entry into the water is very easy and the clarity is perfect for photography. The atmosphere is social and reflects the modern spirit of the island tourism. It is a central part of the southern coastline for all visitors.
