Madonna turned 68 on Sunday, August 16, and she did it in a small village on Corfu. Judging by the photos she just shared, the Queen of Pop went all in on a proper Greek night out.
On Tuesday she posted a carousel from the evening with a caption that reads like a Greek summer to-do list: "It's My Birthday! Eat, Pray, Love, Drink, Dance, Break plates, Feed Cats! Thank you G*D!"
The party was at Atzardo, a traditional meze taverna in the village of Kouramades that serves Corfiot and seasonal dishes, according to Proto Thema. She was joined by her partner, Akeem Morris, close friends and her children Lourdes, Rocco, Mercy and twins Stella and Estere, as W Magazine and Neos Kosmos reported.
The soundtrack was as local as it gets. Proto Thema reports that the Mpoufetzides, a folk band known for rebetiko and traditional Greek popular music, performed along with the Agios Spyridonas children's and youth choir, named after Corfu's patron saint. One of the songs was "O Pio Kalos O Mathitis" by the legendary Yiorgos Zambetas, and yes, the night ended with smashed plates.
The details were very Madonna. W Magazine says she wore a floral, gold-embroidered Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda dress with a hot pink headpiece by Julia Clancey. The cake was heart-shaped and decorated with the evil eye, and a stray cat wandered over and made it into her recap. So the "Feed Cats" part checks out.
She also worked hard to keep it private. According to Proto Thema, she arrived in blacked-out vans with an escort, two village roads were closed for her arrival, and a local resident said neighbors were asked to close their windows. A planned stop at the village's Panagia church, which the priest had opened specially, was called off because of the crowds.
The birthday capped a week that also included a little spiritual sightseeing. On Friday, Madonna flew from Corfu by helicopter with about a dozen people, including her son, for a three-hour visit to Meteora, Proto Thema reports. The Holy Monastery of Varlaam opened especially for her, and she spoke with the abbot, Father Benedict, asking about the komboskini, the Orthodox prayer rope he was holding.
Her last two birthdays were Italian affairs, W Magazine notes, so this year the Ionian Islands got the honor, with a private property, days on the yacht and that helicopter trip on the itinerary.
And the celebrating keeps going. On August 18, two days after the party, she became the leading nominee for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards with 11 nominations, a personal record, according to W Magazine.
