The GOAT is back on the Island of the Winds. Michael Jordan has landed in Mykonos for another Greek summer, and the island is trying very hard to act cool about it. It is not succeeding.
According to Newsit, the six-time NBA champion touched down at the Mykonos airport on his private jet on Wednesday, June 3, then headed straight for his superyacht, M'Brace, which was waiting for him. Greek outlets put the yacht's value at around 100 million euros, so the commute is going fine.
The Mykonos Live TV camera caught him relaxing on deck while the famous Mykonian sunset did its thing over the Aegean, as Parapolitika reported. He is said to be traveling with a group of roughly 25 friends and companions.
First stop on dry land? Nammos, naturally. BriefingNews, citing Mykonos Live TV, reports that he dined at the famous beach restaurant with his wife, Yvette Prieto, and close friends, with video showing a very relaxed MJ enjoying the night.
Epolitical adds that he enjoyed his meal along with one of his trademark cigars, which might be the most Michael Jordan sentence ever written.
Greece is far from a random pit stop for him. The Daily Mail reports that the couple arrived in the islands after a trip to Spain, and Newsit notes that last summer he visited Mykonos, Corfu and Spetses.
His Greek story goes back a lot further than yachts, though. On October 20, 1983, a 20-year-old Jordan, then a sophomore at North Carolina, took on the Greek national team at the Alexandreio arena in Thessaloniki during the Dimitria tournament.
Across from him was Nikos Galis, the future legend of Greek basketball. Jordan scored 34, Galis scored 24, and North Carolina won 100 to 83, according to UNC's sports archive and Sportday. Afterward, Jordan said he had not expected to see a scorer like that in Europe, especially from Greece.
More than four decades later, he keeps coming back, and Mykonos is clearly still at the top of his summer list.
