St. Patroklos Feast Day and Greek Name Day

St. Patroklos is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a martyr remembered for his courage and devotion to the Christian faith during the persecutions of the early Church. His feast day is celebrated on January 21, and on this day people named Patroklos and Patroclus celebrate their Greek name day.

Who Was St. Patroklos

St. Patroklos lived during the 3rd century in the region of Troyes in Gaul, in what is now modern day France. He was known as a devoted Christian who lived a life dedicated to prayer and faith.

During this time, Christians often faced persecution under the Roman Empire for refusing to worship pagan gods.

Martyrdom of St. Patroklos

According to Christian tradition, St. Patroklos was arrested because he openly professed his Christian faith. When he refused to renounce Christianity or offer sacrifices to pagan gods, he was sentenced to death.

He remained steadfast in his faith until the end and was ultimately executed, becoming honored as a martyr of the Church.

Greek Name Day for Patroklos

Because St. Patroklos is commemorated on January 21, this date is also the Greek name day for:

PatroklosPatroclus

In Greek culture, celebrating a name day is often just as important as celebrating a birthday, and friends and family commonly offer well wishes or visits to honor the person whose name is being celebrated.

When Is St. Patroklos Celebrated

The feast day of St. Patroklos is observed each year on January 21 in the Greek Orthodox Church. Churches remember his courage and devotion to the Christian faith during a time of persecution.
