About Wyndham Grand Athens
Wyndham Grand Athens is on Karaiskaki Square at 2 Megalou Alexandrou Street, a few steps from Metaxourgeio metro station. The hotel, run by ZEUS International, is a straightforward base for exploring the city: a rooftop pool bar and restaurant looks across to the Acropolis, Lycabettus Hill and the Saronic Gulf, and there is a spa, a 24-hour gym and round-the-clock reception and concierge.
Rooms and suites
Standard Doubles and Twins come with city views or atrium views, where daylight comes in from the hotel's central atrium. They suit couples, friends and solo travellers, with pillowtop mattresses, Egyptian cotton linens, an espresso machine and a work desk. Executive Doubles and Twins add marble bathrooms, and the ones facing the Acropolis are worth asking for if you want the lit-up hill in view at night.
Junior Suites, with city or Acropolis views, have a living area separated from the bedroom by a carved wooden partition, a sofa bed and two TVs. Executive Suites have a separate bedroom and living room, a bathtub and double washbasins, and the hotel suggests them for families, with connecting rooms available. The Presidential Suite on the 7th floor is 90 sq m, with two bathrooms, a Jacuzzi and views of the Acropolis. Accessible rooms and suites have walk-in showers with support rails.
Rooftop pool and breakfast
ABOVE, the rooftop pool bar and restaurant on the 9th floor, is where breakfast is served as a buffet, with views from the Acropolis to Lycabettus Hill and the Saronic Gulf. Later in the day it serves light bites and cocktails beside the outdoor waterfall pool. Check current pool opening times with the hotel. Breakfast runs from 6:30am to 10:30am, and an earlier breakfast can be arranged on request.
On the ground floor, FOS is the all-day Mediterranean restaurant in the daylit atrium, with à la carte and buffet options and a selection of wines. SILK lounge bar serves coffee, light snacks and drinks with a view of Karaiskaki Square. In-room dining is available 24 hours, with gluten-free and allergy-friendly options. The spa offers facials, massages including a Cretan olive oil massage, a dry sauna and a gym open 24 hours a day.
Location and getting around
On foot, Metaxourgeio metro station (line 2) is about 210 m (3 minutes) and Omonia station about 720 m (10 minutes). Larissa station, for trains, is about 1.2 km (16 minutes). The National Archaeological Museum is about 1.7 km (23 minutes), Plaka about 1.8 km (24 minutes), Syntagma Square about 1.9 km (25 minutes) and the Acropolis Museum about 2.3 km (31 minutes), so the metro from Metaxourgeio is the quicker way to the old town.
