Here is how to make Loukoumades

Loukoumades are small, sweet fried dough balls that are a traditional dessert in Greece. They're often served with honey and cinnamon, and sometimes with a sprinkle of crushed walnuts. Here's a recipe for you to follow:

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  1. 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

  2. 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

  3. 1 cup warm milk

  4. 3 cups all-purpose flour

  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  6. Vegetable oil, for frying

For the syrup:

  1. 1 cup honey

  2. 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  3. Optional: crushed walnuts for topping

Instructions:

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy.

  2. Make the dough: Add the warm milk, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until you have a smooth, sticky batter. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, until it has doubled in size.

  3. Fry the dough balls: Heat a few inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil. Fry until the dough balls are golden brown on all sides, then remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.

  4. Make the syrup: While the dough balls are frying, warm the honey in a small saucepan or in the microwave until it's easy to drizzle.

  5. Serve the loukoumades: Drizzle the warm honey over the fried dough balls. Sprinkle with cinnamon and crushed walnuts if desired. Serve.

Enjoy your homemade Loukoumades! They're a delightfully sweet treat, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and perfect for any festive occasion.
