How Many Days Should I Spend on Skopelos?
Skopelos covers well over three days for Chora and the closest beaches, and five lets the island's pine-covered coastline and hiking trails come together at a proper pace.
Skopelos fills a first day easily in Skopelos Town, where whitewashed houses climb from the harbor toward the ruins of a Venetian castle, and the walk up through the old neighborhood passes church after church on the way. Glossa, the island's second port, offers its own version of traditional architecture and fish tavernas for a quieter alternative.
A second day belongs to Agios Ioannis Kastri, the cliffside chapel made famous by Mamma Mia!, along with Kastani Beach nearby, both easy to combine on a coastal drive from Glossa.
A third day suits Panormos, a large beach with tavernas and water sports options, and Agnontas, a quieter port village nearby, giving a good sense of the island's range between livelier and more relaxed stretches of coast.
A fourth day works well for a hike to the Monastery of Timios Prodromos, established in the 17th century and holding a small museum of religious icons, or a boat trip around the coastline to reach coves with no road access, often paired with a chance to spot dolphins along the way.
A fifth day suits the scenic mountain route over Mount Delfi, the island's highest point at 685 meters and covered in pine forest, along with Elios, a quieter seaside town at the end of the drive, or the option of extending the trip through Skiathos, the nearest island with an airport.
Three days cover Skopelos Town, the Mamma Mia chapel, and a first beach day comfortably, four adds Panormos and Agnontas, and five brings the monastery hike, a boat trip, and the mountain route into a fuller stay. Even a short three-day visit gives a real sense of the island's pine-covered coast, but Skopelos's trails, beaches, and villages give clear reason to plan for the better part of a week.
