How Many Days Should I Spend on Thassos?

Thassos covers well over three days for the main beaches and Limenas, and four to five let the mountain villages and quieter coves come together at a proper pace.

Thassos fills a first day easily in Limenas, the capital, where an ancient theater carved into the hillside sits close to the Ancient Agora, and the Sotirelis Olive Oil Museum, home to the only functioning water-powered mill of its kind in Greece, gives real context to one of the island's oldest industries. Golden Beach, about ten kilometers southeast, rounds out the day with fine sand and gentle water.

A second day belongs to Marble Beach, also called Saliara, where white marble pebbles left over from a former quarry turn the shallow water an intense shade of blue, along with the fishing village of Limenaria for lunch at one of its harbor tavernas.

A third day suits Theologos, the island's former capital, considered one of the more traditional villages on Thassos, with a folklore museum tracing daily life on the island back generations. Potos, a large beach nearby, gives an easy stop after the morning spent inland.

A fourth day works well for Makriammos, Paradise, and Alyki, three organized beaches with room for quieter coves nearby for anyone wanting more privacy, along with the mountain village of Panagia, close enough to combine with a swim at Chrysi Ammoudia.

A fifth day suits Thassos's inland hiking trails and e-bike routes, or pairing the trip with Kavala on the mainland for anyone extending the visit further, given the two share a strong cultural connection and a short ferry crossing.

Two days cover Limenas and Golden Beach comfortably, three adds Marble Beach and Theologos, and four or five bring the remaining beaches and mountain villages into a fuller stay. Even a short two-day visit gives a real sense of the island's beaches and history, but Thassos's villages and hiking trails give genuine reason to plan for the better part of a week.
