Where Should I Stay on Agios Efstratios?

Agios Efstratios keeps the decision simple, since nearly every guesthouse and room sits in or close to Chora, the island's only real village.

Agios Efstratios's Chora, rebuilt in the valley after the 1968 earthquake, holds most of the island's small guesthouses and rooms, many run directly by local families rather than large hotel chains. Staying here puts the harbor, the Museum of Democracy, and the island's handful of tavernas and cafes all within a short walk.

A few properties sit a bit further from the harbor toward the center of the village and the dark sand beach right beside it, giving a slightly quieter setting while keeping the village's few amenities close enough to reach on foot.

Since Agios Efstratios has no real road network beyond the village itself, reaching the island's other beaches, including Agios Dimitrios and Ftelio in the south, means walking or a boat trip, so where a stay lands in Chora matters less than simply booking one of the island's limited rooms ahead of time.

Once a stay is arranged, hotels and places to stay on Agios Efstratios span Chora and its immediate surroundings, and reaching out early in the summer matters given how few beds the island actually has.

Agios Efstratios has no airport, and travelers connect through Lemnos by a ferry of about 90 minutes, or by longer direct sailings from Lavrio or Kavala, so it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit. Chora suits every traveler, since it's the island's only real base, and its simplicity is very much the point of coming here.
