Where Should I Stay on Evia?

Evia splits across several regions, and the choice comes down to city life, ancient ruins, thermal springs, or a slower southern pace.

Evia's Chalkida, the island's capital, gives the liveliest base, with boutique hotels and guesthouses close to the waterfront and its evening restaurant scene. It suits travelers wanting easy access to the medieval Karababa Castle, the tidal Euripus Strait, and the wider convenience of the island's largest town.

Eretria, about fifteen minutes south, pairs beach resorts with real archaeology, since the ancient city here holds a well preserved theater and ruins of the Temple of Apollo Daphnephoros within walking distance of the coast. It suits families and anyone wanting history alongside straightforward beach time.

Loutra Edipsou, on the island's northern tip, centers the stay entirely around Greece's most famous thermal spa town, with mineral-rich springs that have drawn visitors for centuries. It suits travelers building a slower, wellness-focused trip rather than one centered on sightseeing.

Karystos, in the south, trades the north's springs for a laid-back promenade and lively tavernas, and it works as a strong base for hiking the Dimosari Gorge or exploring the Ochi Mountains, with everything in town reachable on foot.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Evia span Chalkida, Eretria, Loutra Edipsou, and Karystos, so the choice comes down to city life, ruins, springs, or mountain access.

Evia connects to the mainland by a bridge at Chalkida, so most travelers arrive by car rather than ferry, and additional car ferries cross from several mainland ports for anyone approaching from the north or south. Chalkida suits travelers wanting culture and convenience, Eretria suits families wanting beach and history together, Loutra Edipsou suits those prioritizing thermal springs, and Karystos suits hikers and anyone wanting the island's quieter southern pace.
