Where Should I Stay on Naxos?

Naxos splits across a few real bases, and the choice comes down to convenience, beach type, or how much space and quiet matters.

Naxos's Chora, the island's capital, gives the most convenient base for first-time visitors and anyone without a car, with the Portara, the Venetian castle quarter, and the island's nightlife and restaurants all within walking distance of the port and bus station.

Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna, two adjoining beach towns just south of Chora, give the easiest classic beach holiday, with long sandy stretches, beach clubs, and tavernas connected by regular buses back to town. Agios Prokopios runs slightly busier and larger, while Agia Anna keeps a calmer, more village-like feel with its own small fishing port.

Plaka, further along the same coastline, trades some of that convenience for space and a quieter pace, with boutique stays and one of the island's most spacious beaches for anyone happy to rely on a car or scooter to get around.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Naxos span Chora, Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna, and Plaka, so the choice comes down to convenience, beach energy, or space and quiet.

Naxos has its own airport, and travelers arriving by ferry should check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer trip, since routes through Paros and directly from Piraeus fill up in peak season. Chora suits first-timers and no-car trips, Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna suit beach-focused stays, and Plaka suits couples and travelers wanting more space and a slower pace.
