Where Should I Stay on Oinousses?

Oinousses keeps the decision simple, since nearly every guesthouse and apartment sits in or right around the island's single town.

Oinousses town, wrapped around the harbor, holds the widest range of accommodation, mostly cozy apartments and guesthouses set in the neoclassical mansions built by the island's shipping families. Staying here puts the Maritime Museum, the harbor tavernas, and the walk toward the Monastery of the Annunciation all within easy reach on foot.

A handful of properties sit a short distance from the center, closer to quieter coves like Bilali and Kakopetria, giving travelers who want to be nearer a swimming spot a slightly different setting while staying within easy walking distance of the town's few tavernas.

Given how small Oinousses is, with roads covering only about 18 kilometers around the island's perimeter, nearly everywhere to stay puts the harbor, the museums, and the coastline within reach on foot, so the choice comes down more to preference than logistics.

Once a stay is arranged, hotels and places to stay on Oinousses cover the town and the nearby coves, and booking ahead matters given how limited the island's accommodation actually is, particularly when the island's shipping families return each summer.

Oinousses connects to Chios by a short ferry crossing of about 30 to 40 minutes, with less frequent direct sailings from Piraeus and Kavala running considerably longer, so it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit. The town suits nearly every traveler, since it's the island's real center, and staying close to the harbor gives easy access to everything Oinousses has to offer.
