Where Should I Stay on Sifnos?

Sifnos splits mainly between the central capital and a handful of coastal villages, and the choice comes down to nightlife, convenience, beach access, or atmosphere.

Sifnos's Apollonia, the capital sitting at the geographical center of the island, gives the most convenient base for first-time visitors, with the best bus connections, the widest range of restaurants and shops, and walkable dinners every evening. It suits travelers wanting nightlife and easy day trips without needing a car.

Kamares, the main port, gives the easiest arrival, with its own family-friendly beach and a quiet lagoon, and it suits anyone wanting to stay near the water without renting a car, since Apollonia sits only a short bus ride away.

Platis Gialos, on the southeast coast, holds one of the longest beaches in the Cyclades, lined with boutique hotels, restaurants, and a small marina. It suits travelers wanting the sea directly outside the door alongside a decent range of dining.

Kastro, the island's old fortified capital, trades beach access and nightlife for history and quiet, with dramatic clifftop scenery that suits couples wanting a slower, more romantic pace, though a car or scooter helps for reaching restaurants and beaches elsewhere.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Sifnos span Apollonia, Kamares, Platis Gialos, and Kastro, so the choice comes down to nightlife, convenience, beach time, or history.

Sifnos has no airport, and the ferry from Piraeus is the way in for nearly everyone, so it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit, since the island fills up faster than many of its Cycladic neighbors. Apollonia suits most first-timers, Kamares suits those without a car, Platis Gialos suits beach-focused stays, and Kastro suits couples wanting quiet. Milos and Serifos both sit close enough for island-hopping extensions.
