Where Should I Stay on Skyros?

Skyros splits mainly between the hilltop capital and the beach settlements just below it, and the choice comes down to village atmosphere versus direct beach access.

Skyros's Chora, built up the slope beneath a Byzantine castle, holds the widest range of tavernas, cafes, and bars, along with the Archaeological Museum and the Monastery of Saint George. It suits travelers wanting evenings centered on village life, with the beach a short walk or drive downhill rather than right outside.

Molos and Magazia, blending into each other on the coast just below Chora, give the most convenient beach base on the island, with sandy shoreline lined with hotels, apartments, and beach bars. Molos holds a larger concentration of accommodation and a more organized beach, while Magazia sits closer to Chora itself, letting travelers walk into town for dinner without much effort either way.

Linaria, the ferry port on the island's western coast, sits about ten kilometers from Chora and works well for travelers wanting to be close to arrivals and departures, though it means relying on a car or bus to reach the main town and beaches.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Skyros span Chora, Molos and Magazia, and Linaria, so the choice comes down to village life, beach convenience, or ferry access.

Skyros has its own small airport with flights from Athens, and travelers arriving by ferry from Kymi on Evia should check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit. Chora suits travelers wanting nightlife and culture, Molos and Magazia suit those prioritizing beach access, and Linaria suits anyone wanting to stay close to the port.
