Getting from Aegina to Astakos

If you are heading to Astakos from Aegina you are making your way to a port town on the western coast of central Greece, on a quiet bay surrounded by hills with good seafood tavernas along the waterfront.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Astakos. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travelling by road northwest to Astakos, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Astakos has no airport. The nearest airport is Preveza, around 1 hour 15 minutes away by road. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Preveza, followed by a drive to Astakos, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive to Astakos. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive northwest via the E65 motorway to Astakos.
