Getting from Aegina to Kea

If you are heading to Kea from Aegina you are making your way to the closest Cycladic island to Athens, with good beaches, a quiet Chora and an ancient stone lion carved into the hillside that is one of the more unusual monuments in the Cyclades.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Kea. Kea is served exclusively from Lavrio on the southeastern Attica coast, around 35 kilometres from Athens Airport. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travel to Lavrio by taxi or bus, around 1 to 1.5 hours, for the ferry to Kea taking around 40 minutes to 1 hour. Total journey time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Getting there by air

Kea has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. The ferry via Piraeus and Lavrio is the only realistic option from Aegina.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and travel to Lavrio for the ferry to Kea. With up to 7 daily crossings in summer the connection from Lavrio is one of the most frequent in Greece. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive to Lavrio and take the ferry across to Kea.
