Getting from Aegina to Chania
If you are heading to Chania from Aegina you are making your way to the most beautiful city in Crete, with a Venetian old town wrapped around a harbour that has been in use for over three thousand years.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Chania. The most practical ferry approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board the overnight Piraeus to Chania ferry, which departs at 21:00 and arrives in Chania at 05:30. The total journey by sea takes around 10 to 11 hours and is a good option if you are not in a hurry.
Getting there by air
Chania has an international airport. The fastest overall approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, take the metro to Athens Airport and fly to Chania, with the flight taking around 45 minutes. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry to Piraeus and fly to Chania. It is the fastest approach. If you are travelling with a car or want to avoid airports, the overnight ferry from Piraeus to Chania is a comfortable and practical alternative, with cabins available and the ship arriving in Chania in the early morning.
