Getting from Aegina to Evia

If you are heading to Evia from Aegina you are making your way to the second largest island in Greece, connected to the mainland by road bridges and sitting within easy reach of Athens.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Evia. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then either crossing the bridge at Halkida, around 90 kilometres from central Athens, or taking one of the short mainland to Evia ferry crossings from ports such as Rafina or Arkitsa.

Getting there by air

Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then travelling to Halkida by road or bus gives a total journey time of around 2.5 to 3 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive or take the bus to Halkida. The bridge crossing into Evia is straightforward and from Halkida you can head north toward the thermal baths at Edipsos or south toward the remote beaches of the southern tip. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, making the onward drive to Evia simple.
