Getting from Aegina to Ioannina

Both Ioannina and Athens have airports. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Ioannina takes around 50 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours and is the most practical approach for most travellers.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and fly to Ioannina. It is the fastest and most practical approach. The KTEL bus from Athens Kifissos terminal to Ioannina runs several times daily and takes around 6 to 7 hours, which is worth considering if you prefer not to fly. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive northwest via the E65 motorway to Ioannina, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens.
