Getting from Aegina to Lavrio

If you are heading to Lavrio from Aegina you are making your way to the port closest to Athens Airport on the southeastern tip of Attica, the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Lavrio. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travel by road to Lavrio, which is around 60 kilometres from Piraeus and around 35 kilometres from Athens Airport. The drive takes around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic.

Getting there by air

Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 25 kilometres to the northwest. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then travelling to Lavrio by road gives a total journey time of around 2 to 3 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive or take a taxi to Lavrio. If you are arriving at Athens Airport from Aegina, the KTEL bus from the airport to Lavrio takes around 30 to 40 minutes and is the most practical connection for anyone heading to Kea or Kythnos from there.
