Getting from Aegina to Nafplio

If you are heading to Nafplio from Aegina you are making your way to a neoclassical town on the Argolic Gulf in the Peloponnese, the first capital of modern Greece with the Venetian fortress of Palamidi above it and Mycenae, Epidaurus and Tiryns all within easy reach.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Nafplio. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travel by road or bus to Nafplio, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours from Athens. Alternatively, a taxi from Aegina to Methana on the Peloponnese coast, which takes around 30 minutes by sea, connects to a faster road route south to Nafplio.

Getting there by air

Nafplio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. The fastest overall approach from Aegina is to take the Saronic ferry to Piraeus and then drive or take the KTEL bus to Nafplio, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive or take the KTEL bus to Nafplio. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive south through the Peloponnese to Nafplio.
