Getting from Aegina to Rafina

If you are heading to Rafina from Aegina you are making your way to the second most important ferry port serving Athens, on the northeastern Attica coast and the closest port to Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Rafina. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travel to Rafina by taxi or bus. A taxi from Piraeus to Rafina takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. Alternatively, take the metro from Piraeus to Athens Airport and then the KTEL bus to Rafina, which takes around 30 to 40 minutes from the airport.

Getting there by air

Rafina has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 16 kilometres to the southwest. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and connecting to Rafina gives a total journey time of around 2 to 3 hours depending on the route taken.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and take a taxi directly to Rafina. It is the fastest approach at around 1 hour 20 minutes total. If you are connecting from Athens Airport, the KTEL bus from the airport to Rafina is a short and inexpensive connection.
