Getting from Agathonisi to Alonissos

If you are heading to Alonissos from Agathonisi you are making your way from one of the smallest islands in the Dodecanese group to the most remote of the Sporades, in the northern Aegean. The two islands are in completely different parts of Greece and the journey requires going through Athens.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Alonissos. The two islands are in different island groups with no sea connection between them. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then either flying to Skiathos and taking the ferry to Alonissos, which takes around 1 to 2 hours, or driving from Athens to Agios Konstantinos for the Sporades ferry, which takes around 4 to 5 hours to Alonissos.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Leros and Samos. Flying from Agathonisi means taking the local ferry to Leros or Samos first, then flying to Athens and connecting to Skiathos, followed by the ferry to Alonissos. Total travel time is around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and then fly to Skiathos and take the ferry across to Alonissos. It is the most time efficient approach given the complexity of the journey. Give yourself at least a full day of travel and build flexibility into your plans.
