Getting from Agathonisi to Andros

If you are heading to Andros from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to the northernmost island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality and a network of old footpaths connecting the villages.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Andros. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the ferry from Rafina to Andros. Rafina is around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport, making it a convenient connection without crossing the city to Piraeus. The crossing from Rafina to Andros takes around 1 to 2 hours with up to 11 daily departures in summer.

Getting there by air

Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then a taxi or bus to Rafina, followed by the ferry to Andros, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Andros. If you are arriving at Athens Airport, Rafina is a short taxi or bus ride from the terminal and avoids crossing the city entirely. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Rafina takes your vehicle directly to Gavrio port on Andros.
