Getting from Agathonisi to Halki

If you are heading to Halki from Agathonisi you are making your way to a car-free island further south in the Dodecanese group, just off the western coast of Rhodes. It has neoclassical sponge merchant mansions around a horseshoe harbour and a pace of life that is as slow as it gets in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Halki. The most practical ferry approach is to take the direct ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes, which takes around 6 to 8 hours, and then connect to Halki by local ferry from Rhodes, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. This keeps the journey within the Dodecanese network without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Halki has no airport. The nearest airport is Rhodes. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes, followed by the local ferry from Rhodes to Halki taking around 1.5 to 2 hours, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes and connect to Halki from there. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and avoids going through Athens entirely. If time matters, take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and then to Rhodes and take the local ferry across to Halki. Give yourself at least two nights on Halki.
