Getting from Agathonisi to Karpathos

If you are heading to Karpathos from Agathonisi you are making your way to a long mountainous island further south in the Dodecanese group, with a strong local culture and the extraordinary village of Olympos in the north where centuries-old customs are still very much alive.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Karpathos. The most practical ferry approach is to take the direct ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes, which takes around 6 to 8 hours, and then connect to Karpathos from Rhodes by local ferry, which takes around 3 to 4 hours. This keeps the journey within the Dodecanese network without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Karpathos has its own airport with connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Karpathos, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes and connect to Karpathos from there. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and avoids going through Athens entirely. If time matters, take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and then to Karpathos.
