Getting from Agathonisi to Kastellorizo

If you are heading to Kastellorizo from Agathonisi you are making your way to the easternmost point of Greece, further south in the Dodecanese group. It is a tiny island just off the Turkish coast with a harbour of neoclassical mansions, the extraordinary Blue Cave and an atmosphere of complete tranquility.

Take the ferry

There is a direct seasonal ferry from Agathonisi to Kastellorizo operated by Dodekanisos Seaways, running via Rhodes and taking around 8 to 10 hours. The service runs a limited number of times per week in summer so check the schedule carefully and build your travel dates around the available departures. Outside of the summer season the connection goes via Rhodes.

Getting there by air

Kastellorizo has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kastellorizo gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the seasonal direct ferry from Agathonisi when the schedule works for your dates. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese network and avoids going through Athens entirely. If the timing does not align, take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes and connect to Kastellorizo from there by local ferry or flight.
