Getting from Agathonisi to Katerini

If you are heading to Katerini from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to a city at the foot of Mount Olympus on the Pierian coast of northern Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no ferry from Agathonisi to Katerini. Katerini is a mainland city with no connection to the Dodecanese ferry network. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos and flying via Athens first.

Getting there by air

Katerini has no airport. The nearest airport is Thessaloniki, around 70 kilometres to the north. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Thessaloniki, followed by a bus or drive to Katerini taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Thessaloniki via Athens and take the bus or drive south to Katerini. The KTEL bus from Thessaloniki to Katerini runs regularly and takes around 1 hour. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens, rent a car and drive north via the E75 motorway to Katerini, which takes around 4 to 4.5 hours from Athens.
