Getting from Agathonisi to Lefkada

If you are heading to Lefkada from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to an island in the Ionian Sea, on the opposite side of Greece. Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a causeway and has some of the finest beaches in Europe on its west coast.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Lefkada. Lefkada has no main ferry port connecting it to the wider Greek ferry network and is accessible from the sea only by local ferries from Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting there from Agathonisi means taking the local ferry to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then either driving northwest to Lefkada, which takes around 5 hours from Athens, or flying to Kefalonia and taking the local ferry from Fiskardo to Nidri in Lefkada, which takes around 2 hours.

Getting there by air

Lefkada has no airport. The nearest airport is Preveza, around 22 kilometres from Lefkada Town, but it has no domestic connection from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then driving or taking the KTEL bus to Lefkada gives a total journey time of around 7 to 8 hours. Flying to Kefalonia via Athens and taking the local ferry to Lefkada is a good alternative.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and drive northwest to Lefkada. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, fly to Athens, rent a car and drive to Lefkada via the E65 motorway, which takes around 5 hours from Athens.
