Getting from Agathonisi to Nisyros

If you are heading to Nisyros from Agathonisi you are making your way to an island further south in the Dodecanese group, an active volcano where the entire island sits inside a caldera and the crater at Stefanos is one of the most accessible volcanic landscapes in Europe.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Nisyros. The most practical ferry approach is to take the direct ferry from Agathonisi to Kos, which takes around 3 to 4 hours, and then connect to Nisyros by local ferry from Kos, which takes around 1 to 1.5 hours. The total journey by sea takes around 5 to 6 hours and keeps you within the Dodecanese network without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Nisyros has no airport. The nearest airport is Kos. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Kos, followed by the local ferry from Kos to Nisyros, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agathonisi to Kos and then the local ferry across to Nisyros. It is the most practical approach and keeps the journey within the Dodecanese without going through Athens. Check the Kos to Nisyros schedule before planning around it as the service does not run daily.
