Getting from Agathonisi to Skyros

If you are heading to Skyros from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to the most remote of the Sporades, in the northern Aegean. The two island groups are on opposite sides of the Aegean and the journey requires going through Athens.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Skyros. Skyros is connected to the mainland only via Kymi on the eastern coast of Evia. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then either flying to Skyros directly or driving to Kymi for the ferry, which takes around 1 hour 40 minutes and runs 2 to 3 times daily.

Getting there by air

Skyros has its own small airport with connections from Athens, running around twice a week. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Skyros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. Check the Athens to Skyros schedule carefully as the service runs a limited number of times per week.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and connect to Skyros. It is the most time efficient approach. If the flight schedule does not align, drive to Kymi for the ferry across to Skyros. If you are travelling with a car, fly to Athens, drive to Kymi and take the ferry from there.
